“Without God, there is not virtue, because there’s no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we’re mired in the matter, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” - Ronald Reagan

September thoughts: One Nation, Under God

I had a restless night. So much was on my mind, thinking about America, and the tragedy of September 11th. Last night, I watched T.V. specials showing some footage and survivors. I was only nine years old when this all happened, yet I remember it vividly. It’s always going to mean so much more to us that remember that exact day, than those who hadn’t. For some reason, all of what happened just really struck me today. It’s true, understanding grows with age. What I don’t understand is the apathy that is now taking place in America. For maybe a year after September 11, 2001, Americans seemed united and fired up. People were praying, pressing for war, and seemed all united on decision-making (for the most part). (Of course, humans always turn to God in times of tragedy, but He is always faithful.) No one worried about offending any muslims extremists. Now, it’s ten years later. Some Americans are upset about going to war at all and it taking so long to kill Osama. Are you kidding me? Watch that footage for me one more time and say we should not have gone to war. What the footage didn’t show you was the muslim countries celebrating at our demise that very day. It makes me angry, and it SHOULD get Americans angry. Perhaps what upsets me the most is the story of the crosses left standing in the rubble. Some atheist complained that “he can’t sleep at night and gets headaches” from the thought of the crosses being displayed, because it’s a religious symbol. This country was founded on Judeo-Christian values, and if you don’t like it, get over it. If you are an atheist, and you believe in no God, then why would it bother you if three crosses standing in the rubble were up anyways? You’re an atheist. You believe in nothing. You should have no conviction about anything, so what is that to you? Who are you to say that they should be put away? What about the families who lost love ones and saw those crosses standing there, symbolizing hope? In fact, two can play at that game. What about my feelings? I’m offended they wouldn’t have them up, what about me? Did I also mention that no Christian spoke today, because we didn’t want to “offend” anyone. Um, hello? No one was worried about offending anyone ten years ago? Why now? Think about it. My last point: the controversy over a mosque being built a reasonable distance near ground zero (and using government funds to pay for it?!?!) Are you serious? The oh-so “open-minded” “well’’-rounded” liberals think it is terrible of us “small minded”, bigoted Christian Conservatives to oppose it. My problem? I don’t care who you are. History shows that Muslim extremists build mosques near places that they considered dominated. The most famous example is the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. We know their motivation. I’m not saying that all muslims are evil, but I’m not afraid of offending them either. Can we just get rid of the political correctness? Instead of worrying about hurting everyone else’s feelings, let’s focus on US. America’s best interest. One nation, under God.
